September is a strange month, isn’t it?

It’s the unofficial end of summer, so we’re all getting back into the swing with everyone back in the office.

Yet there is a “newness” to September, perhaps in part due to the back-to-school activities and students returning to university campuses.

Further, it’s not the end of the Third Quarter, yet September feels as if it should be part of the Fourth Quarter, especially since we lose time due to the November and December holidays.

Here are a few of our suggestions for getting the most out of this strange month:

Reconnect – September is a great time to reconnect with people you met earlier this year, especially from the Spring conferences. Hint: If you’re out-licensing, and your counterpart has not responded all Summer, wait a few days before making that call.

Review – Early September is an excellent time to review your goals for 2013, and to start making plans for 2014. Invoke “80/20” thinking to help you focus on those activities that will lead towards goal completion.

Revise – Revise any plans you made for 2013 and 2014, especially conference plans. For example, now might be a good time to book that room at the Nikko in January.

We’ve found that many deals which close in November and December are due to the efforts made in September. So let’s all get busy this month!
